Village Harvest RiceThanks to Village Harvest Rice for making this video possible.  We love their frozen, pre-cooked whole grains…our secret weapon on some of our busiest days.

There’s no better way to teach children the importance of eating fresh, healthy, organic food than with recipes their families can cook and eat together! With its innovative approach to cooking as a family, The Whole Family Cookbook inspires parents and children to fill their tables with exciting dishes that are still nutritious and seasonal. An award-winning food educator and founder of San Francisco’s premier children’s cooking school, author Michelle Stern has a passion for passing on culinary skills to younger generations.

Now, in her first cookbook, Michelle gives families the resources they need to cook delicious, local, and organic food, including:

  • Practical advice to teach parents how to pick the best of local and natural food without spending too much time or money.
  • Color-coded instructions that guide kids of all ages through age-appropriate steps in every recipe.
  • More than 75 organic, family-friendly recipes and beautiful four-color photos that will get everyone excited about what’s for dinner!

Whether they’re cooking Summertime Kabobs on a balmy June evening or Sweet and Savory Turnovers for a toasty winter breakfast, families will learn to love the wholesome food—and priceless memories—they can make together.

This delightful book skips over the rhetoric and simply shows how good, straightforward home-cooked food can be fun and delicious. I appreciate the clarity and joy in these pages—and the ease with which Michelle conveys her contagious love of food and family togetherness. Especially important: the recipes are spot-on.
~ Mollie Katzen, author of Moosewood Cookbook and Pretend Soup

If we are going to change children’s relationship to food, save their health and the health of our planet — then we need to find our kitchens again.  To teach our children the symbiotic relationship between healthy food, a healthy earth, and healthy kids, we need to shop, cook and grow together. The Whole Family Cookbook is a wonderful and delicious tool to help us all eat better, feed our kids well and teach them about good food. ~ Chef Ann Cooper, The Renegade Lunch Lady

Michelle – this is Lisa, Harvey and Karen’s daughter. You are an inspiration! As a working mom with two young girls, I do (somehow!) find time to cook healthy meals for them, and with them, every day. My older daughter (6) loves to cook with me. The baby mostly watches, but she does love to eat 🙂 Some favorites are sole, shrimp, asparagus, peas, pasta, raspberries, strawberries….the list goes on. I can’t wait to get your book and learn some new strategies, and I’m sure Natalia (along with her chef’s apron) will be excited too. Thank you!

    • Michelle Stern says:

Oh my gosh, Lisa – I can’t believe how long it’s been since I last saw you. Thank you for reaching out and visiting my site. So nice to hear from you. Please hug your parents for me!

I like the idea of this cookbook. I am trying so hard to go natural and feed my kids what they need for their health. This has been a HUGE struggle in our home, but I am determined. I have a child with ADHD and may have asperger, so it is very important that he eat right. It will only benefit my whole house. We have 6 kids living at home still. Thank you for creating in this book, and I will be investing in it.
