As an educator, I am thrilled by the idea that I can help parents, teachers, homeschoolers and summer camp directors to use healthy cooking as a way to teach kids. Not only can children learn how to make good food choices, but my lesson plans will help them practice and reinforce what they are already required to learn: literacy, math, nutrition, science and social studies!
Food is the ultimate canvas for learning. A huge bonus? If kids are exposed to healthy foods in the classroom, parents will have a much easier job of getting their kids to eat well at home. What if, by using cooking and food-related lesson plans in the classroom, we could grow a new generation of healthy eaters? We could fight the obesity epidemic, have nourished kids in the classroom whose brains are ready to learn, and we could support local farmers and protect the environment. It could be huge.
Cook the Alphabet Lesson Plans
For awhile, I struggled with where to start. So, I decided to start at the beginning. I’m working on a Cook the Alphabet lesson series for pre-k, kindergarten and 1st grade teachers, which will contain curriculum units for every letter of the alphabet. Each lesson plan contains:
- A healthy, no-bake recipe
- A lesson plan with recommended cooking tools and organizational strategies
- A printable recipe for students to bring home
- Printable instructions for each cooking station
- Literacy Activities
- Math Activities
- A Produce Passport to reinforce healthy eating habits at home and make grocery shopping fun
I’d love to share one of the lessons with you to try at home with your young kiddos or in the classroom with your students. Just sign up for my email newsletter and I’ll send you my B is for Broccoli activity bundle for FREE!
