Things get crazy around here from time to time but we're always quick to reign it in even if that means saying no to some of our favorite activities. Our kids may not always be happy at first but they soon see the benefits of down time.

Great post and reminder for us all.

You are so right! It's hard for some parents to see one of their children being more academic than another, especially in a household where "a good education" is valued above all else. But that doesn't mean that the less-academic kids don't have amazing talents. Our son is amazingly creative, and we try our very best to encourage it and praise him for it. Who knows, maybe one day he will be an actor, author or movie producer.

It is true. Kids today are overscheduled. Micromanagement does not bring out the best in them. the speaker was right - we need to give kids more flexibility and make them develop their best talents.
