Cookbook Suggestions for Children

ToddlerCafeAbout two months ago, I was asked to write an article for iVillage about great cookbooks for kids.  Now that we are in the home stretch of holiday gift buying, you might need some great ideas for the young chefs in your lives.

Here is a link to the article – it contains information about why I loved these books along with some nifty tips for you and your kids in the kitchen.

What’s your favorite Kid’s Cookbook?  Or do you prefer to use your favorite cookbooks with the kids?

I much prefer to teach my kids family favourites, mind you they are 3 and 1, so we enjoy to experience the process, sounds and textures more so than the final product. Mind you I am a fantastic cook. I never use cook books but prefer to go with instinct. Years of cooking, trial and error can lead to some master pieces. An example is the Humpty Dumpty eggs we make on an almost daily basis, the cracking part that is, not always turned into scrambled eggs but put into cakes etc. It is on my blog if anyone wants to look it up..

I also like The Good Housekeeping Illustrated Children’s Cookbook. It has sentimental value to me because my mom used a version with me when I was a kid and I’ve used it with my kids. Plus it has some pretty decent recipes and nice explanations and illustrations.

  3. I love cooking with kids, and find they’re more likely to eat if they help make it. Thanks for the resources.
