Have a Sweet New Year – Apple Honey Crisp

Apples and Honey

Apples and Honey

To the fellow members of my tribe, we hope you have a happy and sweet new year. To celebrate, call your kids into the kitchen to help you make this delicious treat.

Apple Honey Crisp

4-5 apples, Granny Smith or Gala work well
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup flour
2/3 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter

Directions:

  1. Peel and slice apples.
  2. Arrange in a baking dish that has been treated with non-stick spray.
  3. Sprinkle with lemon juice.
  4. Drizzle honey over the top of the apples.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix flour, rolled oats, brown sugar and salt together.
  6. Cut in butter until mixture looks like coarse bread crumbs.
  7. Sprinkle evenly over top of apples.
  8. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 45 to 50 minutes, until the apples are cooked and the crust is golden.
  9. Serve warm.

CALLTHE KIDS:

  • If you are using an apple peeler/corer/slicer, let the kids turn the crank and help gather the peels that gather on the counter.
  • Arrange apple slices in the baking dish
  • Juice the lemon and pour over the apples.
  • Drizzle honey.
  • Measure and mix dry crumble ingredients
  • Pour crumble topping over the apple mixture.

Hi there, this recipe looks awesome! So glad that you’re taking the Eat Local Challenge, and I’m thrilled to have found your blog …

  2. Thanks Jen,
I wrote my post for the Eat Local Challenge today and it will go up in about a week. Hopefully you will check back :-)

  3. Hi Amanda,
Thank you! I just visited your site – great idea. I tried doing something similar with a small fee for subscriptions, but it was too overwhelming trying to do that and run What’s Cooking at the same time (not to mention parenting!)… Job well done :-)
